Bangkok Trip : Day 1

We took the morning flight last Thursday for Bangkok via PAL. Our flight was initially scheduled at 1030am but the flight was delayed for an hour. For some unknown reason, we need to wait the plane from Cebu to take us to Bangkok. Anyway, by 1130am we were already on our way to Bangkok.

while waiting at the NAIA airport and on baord the PAL airbus A330 plane

After three hours and a movie from in-flight services of PAL, we arrived at Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Bangkok immigration process went like a breeze. With more than twenty immigration counters, lining up and entering BKK was not difficult at all. The airport was sooo huge that I got so envious how efficient and how they maximized the layout of the airport. I just noticed most of the tourists here either Europeans or Indians. Few Koreans and Chinese, but mostly white people around. Tourism Industry in BKK must be doing well.
goofing around the BKK airport

From the airport we were brought to our hotel, Baiyoke Suites. The drive to our hotel took us around 45 minutes including the traffic experienced in the key cities. It was conveniently situated near the Pratunam area, one of the famous bargain haven for shoppers. It was clean, spacious and really nice with friendly and very accommodating staff. Though the hotel quite old, but the room was really spacious. 2 bedroom suite talaga! Hahaha! For the package price we paid for 4 days and 3 nights, including breakfast buffet, really worth it!

at the streets of Bangkok. Enjoying the spicy grilled squid... Yummy!

another street food treat: grilled pork barbecue, pork intestines and pork sausages at THB 10 each. Can't pass up the chance of eating the famous BKK street food. -- don't we just love to eat street food? Hehehe!

We strolled the streets of Petchaburi Road (main road with Pantip and Platinum Mall) and bought almost all the street food we saw. From grilled food, sliced fruits, shakes, veggies, corn etc ... all the food you can think of, it was available. We wanted to try everything but of course too risky! It's just our first day at BKK. We don't want to have a bad stomach on our first day. Anyway, after few hours, we got tired and had dinner at Coco Walk. This place offers a very sumptous buffet dinner at THB100 per person (P148/pax). Really cheap, huh?! The husband and I enjoyed it sooo much. Our first taste of BKK full-meal ... an eat-all-you-can buffet grilled barbecue. The food selection includes beef, pork, chicken, squid, fish, sausages etc marinated in different sauces. Sweet, semi-sweet and spicy marinade. With veggies, rice and noodles to enjoy. For dessert, unlimited sweetened nata and jellies topped with shaved ice.

And guess who joined us for dinner... the baby elephant from nowhere! LOL. For THB20 you can feed the elephant with sugarcane.
After the sumptous meal, we went back to our hotel around 10pm. Happy and very much satisfied with our dinner buffet. Despite having sore feet for walking more than 2km from Coco Walk back to our hotel (yes, we did'nt bother taking the tuktuk ride), so far...so good. We were happy with our first day in BKK.
Anyway, armed with our good old Sony idiot camera and new compact flash memory I purchased online, more pictures by Day 2 in Bangkok.
